Immune-mediated inflammatory diseases or disorders (IMID)

What does IMID stand for?

What does IMID stand for?

The abbreviation IMID stands for Immune Mediated Inflammatory Diseases.

This is a broad group of autoimmune disorders characterised by inflammation that are found within the fields of gastroenterology, rheumatology and dermatology.

An autoimmune disease occurs when the immune system considers body tissue as ‘foreign’ and subsequently attacks it. Little is known about the cause and onset of autoimmune diseases. However, several new treatments that suppress or place these diseases into remission and optimise patients’ quality of life already exist.
