Geriatrics DepartmentThe Geriatrics Department concentrates on diagnosing, starting the necessary treatment and carrying out modified rehabilitation. This will involve a multidisciplinary approach.
We provide high-quality care to prepare you as well as possible for life after your discharge.
The necessary ongoing care will be determined in consultation with yourself, your GP, other care providers and your family.
The Geriatrics Department consists of three units: D601, D602 and D603. The Nursing Team can be contacted 24/7.

In busy periods, you may be admitted to another ward. This will always happen under the supervision of the geriatrician and the Internal Geriatrics Liaison Team.

In Deinze, the Geriatrics Department 1 (G1) focuses mainly on 'acute geriatrics': elderly care patients who arrive at the hospital due to an emergency and who need to be admitted receive their initial care here. The patients' stay here is usually for a shorter period of time.
Patients with fractures (ortho-geriatrics) and for whom a longer admission/rehabilitation is necessary are admitted to Geriatrics Department 2 (G2).

Elderly patients on other wards in our hospitalElderly patients may however also end up on other wards in our hospital. In that case, they will be followed up by an interdisciplinary team from the Internal Liaison Department. This team consists of a geriatrician, a geriatric nurse, a speech therapist, an occupational therapist, a dietitian and a psychologist. Their advisory role helps to optimise the care that senior care recipients receive.
