Video consult: manual

A video consultation is a remote consultation with your care provider. The consultation takes place via your computer, smartphone or tablet. You do not have to go to the hospital for this.

For computer/laptop:

  • A computer or laptop with a webcam, speakers and a microphone.
  • Microsoft Teams Application

or

  • Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge Internet browser. Other browsers (such as Internet Explorer, Safari or Mozilla Firefox) do not support these video consultations.

For smartphone or tablet:

  • The Microsoft Teams application that can be downloaded from your Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS). If you follow the step-by-step procedure below, you will automatically be directed to the store to download the application.
  • A camera, speakers and a microphone are standard features on a smartphone. Make sure that your volume is sufficiently high and that the front camera is not covered.

1. If a video consultation with a Maria Middelares General Hospital care provider has been scheduled for you, you will receive confirmation by e-mail.

This e-mail will be sent to the e-mail address on file in your patient data in the digital medical record. If you have not received an e-mail, please contact the service concerned by phone to verify that your e-mail address has been registered correctly.

2. At the time of your appointment, click on the 'START video consultation' button in the e-mail.

3. Your computer will open the link in your default browser. If your default browser is neither Google Chrome nor Microsoft Edge, you will see the adjacent screen, where you can click ‘Take part using Microsoft Edge'.

4. When the link opens in Google Chrome, you get the choice to download the application or participate via the web. Select 'Participate via the web'

5. At this point, Google Chrome will ask you whether Teams should be allowed to use your microphone and camera. Click 'Allow'.

6. As soon as the link is opened in Microsoft Edge (or Google Chrome), you will be asked to enter your name. You will be registered for the meeting using this name. Click on 'Participate now' and wait to be connected.

7. Done! You are ready to participate in the video consultation. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the healthcare provider to ask you in so that the consultation can start.

Install the application and then return to your e-mail client.

4. The Microsoft Teams application is now installed. It is not necessary to open the application or log in. Just go back to your e-mail.

5. Click once more on the 'START video consultation' button in the e-mail confirming the video consultation. Choose 'Teams' to open the link.

6. The link will open in Microsoft Teams. Click on 'Participate as guest'.

7. Enter your name in the next screen. You will be registered for the meeting using this name. Click on 'Participate as guest'.

8. You will be asked if you want to allow Teams to record the audio. Click 'ALLOW'.

9. Done! You are ready to participate in the video consultation. Now it's just a matter of waiting for the healthcare provider to ask you in so that the consultation can start.

To exit a consultation, press the right icon (with the telephone handset, see adjacent figure).

10. After the video consultation you will be asked to assess the quality of the conversation. You can give it a number of stars or you can close the screen by pressing the cross in the top left corner. After this, click on 'Close' to exit the meeting and the app completely.

If you leave this screen open, you may encounter problems if you want to participate in another video consultation another time.
