Intermediate and long-term care wards SP rehabilitation

An SP unit is a ‘SPcialised department for treatment and rehabilitation’, where patients who need additional rehabilitation are admitted after having first completed a period of acute treatment for their illness or operation.

During a rehabilitation admission, the patient and a multidisciplinary team work to organise the transition to home so that it goes as smoothly as possible. The team consists of two physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, social services staff, dietitians, psychologists and pastoral care staff.
