What is it?

To perform a hysteroscopy, a scope (hysteroscope) is introduced into the uterus through the vagina and the cervix.

A hysteroscopy can be diagnostic (e.g. infertility examination) or surgical.

The main reasons to perform a surgical hysteroscopy include:

  • removal of polyps or fibroids (myomas)
  • treatment of the uterine mucous membrane
  • removal of adhesions in the uterus
  • removal of a septum or coil from the uterus
