When performing our daily activities, we have to keep a number of principles in mind to ensure that we place less strain on our back.

Two basic positions

For standing activities, we begin from two basic positions

Standing with one foot forward
Standing with feet spread sideways

Movement below or above picking height

For movements below or above picking height, use a step or bend your hips and knees more

You can use a telescopic stick.

Additional points of support

You can also use additional points of support:

Compensatory movements

Use compensatory movements (e.g. putting your foot on a stool):

Additional tips

  • Change position frequently
  • Tighten your abdominal and buttock muscles
  • Good posture is also partly determined by environmental factors (height of the work surface, office design, storage, workspace, etcetera.)
  • Ironing board height: keep your elbows at an 90° angle, then position the ironing board ten centimetres lower than your wrists.
