COVID-19 vaccination in children

Children between the ages of 5 and 11 can be vaccinated against COVID-19. The parents take their child's development level into account to make this decision.

The COVID-19 vaccine for children:

  • It is safe, widely tested and free. As is the case with other vaccines, possible side effects are related to the age of the baby or child.
  • It can slow the spread among children so that family, school and free time are less interrupted.
  • It reduces the chance of passing the virus to vulnerable people.

Only vulnerable children need the vaccine to protect themselves from the effects of COVID-19 infection. An infection is usually milder in children.

It remains crucial for children to receive their basic vaccines for other infectious diseases (e.g. polio, measles, etc.).
