Symptoms and causes

Pubic lice

Pubic lice are the same lice as head lice, only smaller. They are bloodsucking parasites, found in the pubic area, armpit and belly hairs, eyelashes and eyebrows, that cause a contagious skin infection. Pubic lice are typically sexually transmitted. The main symptom people experience from a public lice infestation is itching.

Diagnosis and treatment

Diagnosis and treatment

Pubic lice

Pubic lice are diagnosed based on what the dermatologist sees with the naked eye and sometimes with the dermatoscope. Just as with head lice, you can comb out pubic lice using a special (fine-toothed) lice comb. This may be insufficient, in which case special anti-lice medication will be prescribed.
