Dialysis at the Intensive Care Department
What is it?
If the kidneys are no longer functioning properly, it is necessary to treat the patient with an artificial kidney. In that case, we will use a central catheter designed for dialysis to draw and clean the blood and to remove extra fluid.
The most common problems that arise with such a treatment at the Intensive Care Department include: low blood pressure and a lowered cardiac output, allergic reactions and catheter-related infections. There are solutions available for each of these problems.
