Unknown primary cancer
Symptoms and causes
What is it?
The medical term for a tumour that has spread (metastasis) without knowing which organ the cancer came from, is 'primary unknown cancer'.
Some cancer tissues are so unrecognisable that, even after pathological and genetic testing, no further indication exists.
Diagnosis and treatment
In the majority of cases, such untraceable metastases are treated with chemotherapy.
