Conditions and diseases
Jaw cysts
Symptoms and causes
A cyst is a cavity in the jawbone that is filled with fluid and lined with epithelium.
When it originates from a tooth, we refer to an odontogenic cyst. A cyst can also have a different origin (trauma, developmental disorder, blocked salivary gland, etcetera). In which case, we refer to a non-odontogenic cyst.
Diagnosis and treatment
Though usually benign in origin, a cyst can easily spread and cause additional damage. We therefore always remove a cyst.
