Ankle pain

Ankle pain can be felt on the onside, outside, front or back. It is often caused by multiple factors. The pain is sometimes due to the instability of ligaments that are too loose. It may also be caused by osteochondral or cartilage injury. Another cause may be bone growth or scar tissue that forms an obstacle (impingement).

To obtain a correct diagnosis, radiography with the individual in a standing position is useful. And sometimes ultrasound imaging is required. Most cases require thorough clinical examination and further technical tests (MRI scan, SPECT scan and sometimes CT scan).
