46th Geriatrics Winter Meeting

Last week saw the 46th winter meeting of the Belgian Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics. Our hospital was well represented for a successful edition. The following individuals took part in our portion of the programme:

  • Liesa Verhaeghe (wound care specialist) gave a presentation on wound care and the need for specific treatment for older skin.
  • Marc Vankerkhoven (transmural care coordinator and head of the geriatric care programme) was the programme moderator, which was about 'outreach care' (people living at home but needing intensive care).
  • Sofie Delbaere (urology consultant) presented on the prevention and treatment of urinary tract infections in the elderly for nurses.
  • Sophie Decock (internal liaison geriatrics nurse) presented a good practice for our project 'internal liaison geriatrics in emergency'.

And, as the finishing touch, our collaborative 'elderly-friendly hospital' advisory text was also presented during the plenary session.
