46th Geriatrics Winter Meeting

Last week saw the 46th winter meeting of the Belgian Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics. Our hospital was well represented for a successful edition. The following individuals took part in our portion of the programme:

Liesa Verhaeghe (wound care specialist) gave a presentation on wound care and the need for specific treatment for older skin.
Marc Vankerkhoven (transmural care coordinator and head of the geriatric care programme) was the programme moderator, which was about 'outreach care' (people living at home but needing intensive care).
Sofie Delbaere (urology consultant) presented on the prevention and treatment of urinary tract infections in the elderly for nurses.
Sophie Decock (internal liaison geriatrics nurse) presented a good practice for our project 'internal liaison geriatrics in emergency'.

And, as the finishing touch, our collaborative 'elderly-friendly hospital' advisory text was also presented during the plenary session.
