Oesophageal stent

In certain circumstances, there may be a constriction (benign or malignant) of the oesophagus, which obstructs the passage of food. In consultation with your physician, the decision may be made, in certain circumstances, to place a little tube (e.g. stent) in the oesophagus. This will not only open up the constriction, but also keep it open.

The stent will be placed while the patient is under anaesthesia. You may read more abut the procedure in the attached leaflet.
