SPX awards: our selected projects
The non-profit ‘Shared Patient eXperience’ would like to bring together European healthcare institutions in order to exchange knowledge and best practices. Inpiring initiatives and fresh ideas can contribute to a higher level of patient experience for all of us.
SPX is organising the SPX awards for the first time. There are two prizes:
- category ‘Patient eXperience’: Optimised trajectory for oncological outpatient treatment
- category ‘Patient eXperience and COVID’: Telemonitoring of COVID patient in the home context

Optimised trajectory for oncological outpatient treatment
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of oncology patients who receive outpatient treatment at the Maria Middelares General Hospital, which resulted in longer wait times for patients and more pressure on care providers. Waiting until the first day to do preparatory steps, combined with telemonitoring, reduces lost time for the patient and care provider. In this way, we improve patient experience and optimise process efficiency.
Telemonitoring of COVID patient in the home context
At the Maria Middelares General Hospital, certain patients are followed with a user-friendly telemonitoring app in their familiar (home) environment. Patients retain more control over their own environment, while easing the pressure for the available hospital beds. The goal is to provide continuous patient care so that there is a smooth transition from first-line to second-line care.
