Iodine-131 (radioiodine) may relieve the symptoms of patients experiencing pressure in their neck due to an enlarged thyroid. However, the fastest and most definitive method for relief from such symptoms is surgical removal of the thyroid. If surgery is contraindicated, radioiodine therapy can be considered.
