Once on site, you are smoothly guided towards the atrium. The atrium is the beating heart of the hospital. From here you are directed to the various departments, registration and waiting points via gates and clear signs. For more information, please contact the information desk or the volunteers in the atrium.
There is free bicycle parking for visitors in the middle square (between the castle and the hospital).

Take the train to Gent-Sint-Pieters station. Afterwards, you can take a bus or tram.

The following lines run to our hospital. Get off at the 'Gent M. Middelares - Maalte' stop.

Hoppin stop
Can't or only partly cover your route to our hospital by public transport? Then you can use tailor-made transport with a Flexbus (based on the former on-call buses).
You can book a seat via www.hoppin.be, the Hoppin app or the Hoppin switchboard 0800/12.2.12. On the flexbus, De Lijn's tickets and fares apply.
Our stop is called 'Gent AZ Maria Middelares main entrance' (Ghent East Region), and can be found near the lift and stairs to the meeting square in front of the main entrance.
AZ Maria Middelares' shuttle service connects seamlessly with the "Gent M. Middelares - Maalte" tram stop. From Monday to Friday, a shuttle bus leaves every 8 minutes between 7.30 and 17.30.

You can drive to AZ Maria Middelares in different ways. Keep in mind that our site can be busy during visiting hours.
Make sure you take the right exit towards P1-P2-P3 and Parking Meetingcenter. Emergency car park is reserved for emergency patients(higher rate for normal visitors).

Parking zones
Take a ticket at the barrier when entering the car park.
There are six parking zones. As soon as you enter our hospital, all car parks are indicated.

Car park 1 (P1) | Tower car park. There is covered quick access to the hospital via the second floor. |
Car park 2 (P2) | Open car park between car park 1 and 3. |
Car park 3 (P3) | Covered car park underneath the hospital. You will also find the kiss & ride here. From here you can take the external stairs or lift to the main entrance. |
Car park 4 (P4) | Open car park between the hospital and the convent. |
Car park Meetingcenter | Open car park near the monastery. From here, there is a shuttle bus to the hospital(see blue box above). |
Emergency car park | Entrance via the emergency car park. All information can be found on the A&E sub-site (practical). |
How much does parking cost?

You pay your ticket at the vending machines (at the main entrance, tower parking +2, or at the Meetingcenter Maria Middelares - Monastery). You can also pay by bancontact.
Exceptions
- Special rate of 10 tickets for 35 euros in the following cases:
- parents (or guardians) of children in the paediatrics and neonatology departments
- admissions of more than 5 nights: from day 6 you can benefit from the special rate
- these tickets are available at the information desk in our entrance hall
- parents (or guardians) of children in the paediatrics and neonatology departments
- Persons with disabilities:
- leave your disabled card visible in the car when using the reserved parking spaces.
- Go to the info desk and show (a copy of) your card for free parking.
- Persons in a difficult social situation:
- report to social services(click here for contact details)
Reserved spaces
- In car park 1 (tower car park), there are four reserved spaces for people with disabilities on the second floor. From here you have covered quick access to the hospital.
- In car park 2 there are two reserved spaces for high patient transport.
- In car park 3, there are reserved parking spaces for parent-child, senior citizens, dialysis patients and people with disabilities. These parking spaces are located at the external lift that takes you to near the main entrance. Are you being brought? You can be dropped off by car right next to this lift and may use the kiss & ride parking spaces (max. 15 minutes parking).
Need a wheelchair?
In the hospital, you will find wheelchairs on the second floor of the tower car park, in the underground car park P3 by the lift and in our entrance hall (at gate A).
The wheelchairs are connected with a chain system. You can disconnect them with a one-euro coin.
