Skin biopsy

Certain skin disorders require that the skin be examined more deeply. In this case, the dermatologist will take a skin biopsy. Under a local anaesthetic, a small sample of skin is removed for examination under the microscope. Sutures will be placed afterwards so that only a tiny scar remains. The sample is then examined under the microscope to allow for a precise diagnosis.
