Fitesse programme

What is it?

What is it?

Are you overweight and want to lose weight? Do you want to live a fitter life and work on your physical and mental health?

Our 'Fitesse' programme is aimed at (young) adults (over 18) who are overweight (BMI > 25) and want to lose weight by adopting a healthier lifestyle. Our teams work towards a longer, healthier and more functional life. To this end, you receive multidisciplinary support from the (sports) doctor, dietician, psychologist and physiotherapist. We want to give you as much information and tips as possible which you can then use yourself.

What does our programme look like?

Over six months, our multidisciplinary team will work with you on a journey towards a healthier lifestyle and lower body weight. The programme usually looks like this:

  1. You are referred by your (GP) doctor or you sign up on your own initiative. In preparation for an initial consultation, you fill in a questionnaire . This allows us to assess risk factors and know your story.
  2. The rehabilitation doctor will discuss your answers to the questionnaire and the programme with you during an introductory interviewor screening .
  3. If the doctor considers Fitesse a suitable programme for you, the secretariat will schedule appointments for a multidisciplinary intake moment and blood will be drawn. If the screening shows that Fitesse is not the right programme for you, we will refer you.
  4. During the multidisciplinary intake moment (this is always a Friday morning and only takes place if the programme will be followed) you will be seen by a dietician, psychologist and physiotherapist. After the intake, there is a consultation between all healthcare professionals involved. Based on these consultations, the rehabilitation doctor will draw up a treatment plan together with you:
  • an intake interview with the dietician
  • a minimum of five follow-up interviews
  • two recorded information sessions sent to you
  • an exercise test at the medical centre in Gentbrugge and, if necessary, an injury prevention test
  • group exercise twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays
  • an online info session
  • a new exercise test at the medical centre in Gentbrugge and, if necessary, a new injury prevention test
  • an intake interview with the psychologist
  • a minimum of two follow-up interviews
  • two information sessions at the hospital

The rehabilitation doctor continues to coordinate medical supervision throughout the programme and provides feedback to the referring doctor in case of medical problems.
