Type 1 diabetes

Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas. This hormone ensures that sugar from the diet is absorbed into the body's cells to serve as a source of energy.

What is it?

In type 1 diabetes, the body itself no longer produces insulin due to permanent destruction of the insulin-producing cells at the pancreas. This causes an increase in the sugar level in the blood.

Typical symptoms of type 1 diabetes:

• Excessive drinking of fluids
• Frequent urination
• Itch
• Feeling of fatigue
• Weight loss

After the diagnosis, your physician will choose the best treatment together with you and the other physicians on the team:

• Measuring the blood sugar using a simple glucometer or sensor is necessary to determine how much insulin is required at that moment.
• Administration of insulin with an insulin pen or an insulin pump
