An epididymis cyst or spermatocoele is a small ‘bell’ filled with sperm cells, located on or in the epididymis.
The epididymis consists of numerous small collection tubes for the sperm cells produced in the testicle. Sometimes a weak spot develops in a collection tube of the epididymis: this can cause an epididymal cyst.

Diagnosis and treatmentAn epididymal cyst is common, but it does not always require treatment. When the swelling becomes large or annoying, it can be surgically removed.
Aftercare (post-surgery)
The testicle will be even bigger, firmer and discoloured shortly after the operation. This will slowly disappear. Showering is allowed after the first day.
The testicles are best supported with snugly fitting underpants for one week. For the first week after surgery, it is a good idea to take it easy: do not use a bicycle, exercise or do any heavy lifting.
