Coffee bar Kaffee Velo in entrance hall AZ Maria Middelares
From 3 November 2025, AZ Maria Middelares will welcome a new but familiar presence in the entrance hall: the Kaffee Velo coffee bar, founded by Simon Lootens.

You will find the coffee bar in the entrance hall of AZ Maria Middelares.
- Open: on weekdays from 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Closed: on weekends and public holidays
Kaffee Velo is no stranger to the hospital. In the past, they already operated several pop-up coffee corners, including on the Day Against Cancer. Thanks to the positive experiences and warm reception by staff, patients and visitors, Kaffee Velo now gets the chance to run a permanent coffee bar for six months.
Kaffee Velo is known for its quality barista coffee, artisanal waffles, homemade pastries and warm cinnamon rolls. Add to this the welcoming service, and you have the ideal place for a well-deserved break.
AZ Maria Middelares makes this coffee bar a pleasant meeting place and brings some warmth to staff, patients and visitors alike during the dark days.
A hospital visit, depending on the reason, can be accompanied by stress and uncertainty. Where necessary, this coffee bar can then provide a moment of calm and humanity. The initiative fits in with our broader vision of patient-centred care, in which their experience and comfort are always central.
